Welcome to Macaroni KID Peoria's Guide to 5K Races, Fun Runs, and Kids Races in Greater Peoria. Running offers a myriad of benefits for both physical and mental well-being. Physically, it strengthens the cardiovascular system, muscles, bones, and joints, improving overall strength and health. Beyond the physical benefits, running is also excellent for mental health. It releases endorphins, often referred to as "feel-good" hormones, which can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. The rhythmic motion of running can promote mindfulness, allowing runners to clear their minds and focus on the present moment. Additionally, running can boost confidence and self-esteem as individuals achieve personal goals and overcome challenges.
Peoria has our very own running club, Illinois Valley Striders Running Club whose mission is "to promote wellness through running and walking activities while striving to enhance our community." They host a ton of races and even a Kids Running Series throughout the summer. That begins May 13. You can find out about that on the flyer below. Illinois Valley Striders also have a IVS Club Beginner Series Training Program which is a specially crafted program tailored for newcomers, aiming to provide effective training, foster connections with like-minded individuals, and ensure an enjoyable experience while enhancing personal well-being.
