Why Winter is the Perfect Time for a Zoo Visit – And It’s Free!

Hey friends,
I’ve got some exciting news to brighten up these chilly days! From January 2 through February 14, admission to the Peoria Zoo is completely FREE. That’s right—free! While many zoos shut their doors during the winter, the Peoria Zoo keeps things going, offering a unique and magical experience for families.

Now, you might be wondering, “Why visit the zoo in the winter?” Let me tell you—it’s actually one of the best times!

1. Active and Playful Animals

The cooler temperatures mean many animals are more active than they are during the summer heat.  Amur (Siberian) Tigers thrive in the cold and are much livelier this time of year.

2. Fewer Crowds, More Connection

With fewer visitors, winter trips to the zoo feel more personal. You can linger longer at exhibits, snap great photos, and enjoy a peaceful stroll without the usual hustle and bustle.

3. A Unique Atmosphere

The zoo feels completely different in winter. The frosty air, bare trees, and the sight of animals in their winter coats create a serene, almost magical ambiance.

4. Learning Opportunities

This is a great time to chat with zookeepers and educators. They’re often less busy and more available to share fun facts or answer your kids' (or your own!) questions about the animals.

5. A Chance to Support the Zoo

Even though admission is free, consider picking up a snack or souvenir at the gift shop. Every purchase helps support the zoo and its incredible work caring for the animals.

So bundle up, grab the kids, and head out for a fun (and free!) adventure at the Peoria Zoo this winter. Trust me, it’s an experience you won’t forget—and your little ones will be talking about it for weeks!

See you there! 🐾
