Jump Start Plus Athletes and Coach Selected for Tumbling Competition in Great Britain
Jump Start Plus in Peoria, IL is pleased to announce that two of their athletes have been selected to compete in the upcoming Federation Internationale De Gymnastiques’ World Age Group Competition. Jill Papenhause, of Tremont, and Amelia Gasper, of Delavan, were selected in June by USA Gymnastics to represent the USA in Birmingham, Great Britain between November 16 and November 19. On November 12, they will meet with other athletes from across the nation to travel and to compete. Papenhause and Gasper are coached by Jump Start Plus coaches Ky Shaw and Linda Laaker.
These two athletes competed in three competitions in the Spring of 2023 to earn points toward their selection. These competitions included the Winter Classic, held in Daytona Beach, FL in March; the Elite Challenge, held in Irving, TX in May; and the USA Gymnastics National Championships held in Tulsa, OK in June. Jill Papenhause competed as a Senior Elite against other athletes ages 17 and up. Amelia Gasper competed as a Junior Elite against other athletes ages 15 and 16. In addition to earning the points to be selected to the USA delegation to the World Age Group Competition, both athletes were selected to be members of the USA Gymnastics’ National Tumbling Team. Papenhause was one of only six tumblers selected to be a member of the Senior National Tumbling Team, and Gasper was one of just eight tumblers selected to be a member of the Junior National Tumbling Team.
The competition in Great Britain will be Papenhause’s 5th time being selected to represent the USA in the World Age Group Competition. She has previously competed in Russia, Japan, Azerbaijan, and Bulgaria. Additionally, she has represented the USA in World Cups in Italy and Portugal. Additionally, this competition will be Gasper’s 2nd time being selected to represent the USA in the World Age Group Competition. She has previously competed in Bulgaria, and at World Cups in Italy and Portugal.
Additionally, Coach Ky Shaw was selected by USA Gymnastics as Assistant Head Coach for the World Age Group Competition. Shaw currently serves as the Tumbling & Gymnastics Team Director as well as the Recreational Tumbling Program Director at Jump Start Plus and has coached multiple athletes locally, nationally, and internationally.
