Summer Reading Pics - Toddlers to Teens

By Sara Bell, Alpha Park Library Youth Services Librarian May 18, 2016

The kids are counting down the final days until summer break.  Parents are tallying up the activities to keep them active and occupied.

What if I told you I’ve got the perfect summer activity?  It’s FREE, it’s easy, it works around YOUR SCHEDULE, it is good for everyone and it will take your family on wonderful adventures….

SUMMER READING!

I know, the name isn’t the most exciting, but doing it is!  Not only is your public library free, open both during the day and evening, but summer reading adventures have benefits galore!

Research shows that students who neglect to read can lose up to 2 months of learning that they had before break.  It doesn’t take much to keep ahead.  Plus, books can go with you on vacation or save a rainy day.  Whether you are introducing a beloved classic or finding something new, you are sure to find some hits with some favorites below.

Check your local library to find these titles.  PLUS, look into their summer programming.  Most have summer reading clubs that offer incentives, storytimes and big events all summer long.  The best part of summer reading is selecting some fun, new things.  Ask your librarian to help you find something you’ll love.

Families going to READ FOR THE WIN this summer at Alpha Park Library, and we hope you are too!
